Games

Also tonight, here are some of my thoughts of the games I’ve been playing recently…

Assassin’s Creed: I didn’t dig it near as much as I would have liked. Maybe I didn’t give it enough time, but through the first two cities I was pretty much doing the same thing over and over without much variation. Evesdrop on this guy. Save a citizen. Spider-Man my way to the next view point. Kill this dude then go back home and take another hour long horse ride to the next town. Like I said, maybe it really picked up towards the end, but I wasn’t feeling it enough to keep trying. The fighting system and death defying acrobats were way too easy for my taste and I found myself hitting the same couple of buttons over and over again. I appreciate some of the innovations in Assassin’s Creed, I just wish they would make those innovations a special treat as opposed to something one does time and again.

Half-Life 2 Orange Box: I’m not gonna lie to you, I only really played it for Portal. It’s short but sweet. Like diabetic sweet. Those of you who have not played it or haven’t beaten it are missing out on one of the best in-context songs ever written. It’s so satisfying to spend a few hours trying to complete something and finally succeeding, and then you are presented with a gloriously hilarious song that only you and others like you will appreciate because you completed your task. Team Fortress 2 was alright. I dug the personal stats it would give you when you die, but overall it didn’t grab me like Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4’s multiplayer did.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: WOWZERS! Even on a non-HD set this game just looked amazing from the very start. The game play was smooth, the story was epic, and the multiplayer is to die for. I love the kill-view feature of the game, where you get to see just how that son-of-a-bitch on Live killed you. Always embarrassing when you see that you were actually standing in the middle of the street with that sniper rifle, instead of behind a car like you had originally thought. The campaign is short, but satisfying. It shows off a lot of what the game has to offer without shoving too much of the same thing down your throat. So far it is the only war based FPS where I actually cared about the NPCs around me. It’s also one of the few FPSs where I cared about my character more than the basic “I hope he/I don’t get shot in the head!”

Super Mario Galaxy: I literally just got it tonight, and already I’m pretty much digging it. The coolest part is it has some multiplayer elements, so Tuna and I were both able to grip a Wiimote and get to work. Player 1 does most of the work controlling Mario and his jumps and flips and kicks, while Player 2 can stop enemies in their tracks, collect stars, and help add to one of Mario’s jumps. We’ve only collected 3 stars in the hour or so we played, but I look forward to collecting all 894783046723982 of them soon.

Halo 3: Didn’t play the campaign. I suck at multiplayer, but I love it. Just like Halo 1 and 2, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

The Simpson’s Game: A look at my gamer will show that I didn’t play this game much at all. It was hilarious, but the gameplay was flawed…just like every Simpson’s game before it. Tradition is tradition. I think I’ll check it out again and give it another shot, if for no other reason than I loves to laugh. Then again Mass Effect is coming out Tuesday, so I probably won’t.

Anyone interested in playing some game together on Live, so just sending me silly voice messages can do so by adding Beefyness as a friend.
