WITCH GONE CUT U! (my golden compass review)

dj got snowed in so i had the day off. the music’s going well. it’s fun more than anything so it makes me feel young, as i havent had fun making it for some time. ive been cruising through amc, tcm, and the hbo’s for movies. i just flaked on creed, the game lost my interest it was too repetitive and i guess the premise just turned me off. i couldnt wait for a 42″ lcd, as it takes about a month for bills to get paid. so i started playing cod4. hold on, bears have 17 seconds.

oh well. so yeah. been watching old movies. madame bovary was a see u next tuesday and she deserved her come uppance. i loved how the baby flipped out every time she held her. and it was presented by martha stewart. i’ve been writing and doing work and kinda paying attention to what’s on the tv. i’ll try to just pull out moments. mr. mom, that pick up artist movie with robert downey junior. today i watched barefoot in the park and radio days. and muppets from space. it’s nice to chill.

i took the path to pavonia to see golden compass and to walk around in a mall. i went alone. i kinda feel stupid without her. like im wasting my time or something it’s weird. it’s kinda like how a new baby will make you see the world all over again, a girl can do that too. as i was watching the movie i felt like, i didnt want to see movies alone anymore. i didnt want to walk around alone or feel invisible. i didnt want to feel all the things ive felt my whole life. painful feelings that stick around now because i want them to. i think im older now and above it, past it. i can cast aside all those emo tendencies.

so i walked around the food court while larger than life jersey youth crashed about like bulls in black parkas and i talked on my phone. with her. she’s where it’s all warm. here it’s gotten cold and everyone’s like lyra in svalbard or the spies like us in their alien costumes. as it gets colder here, i can only think of how warm it is where she is, and how warm i feel when i’m with her. she’s like permanent cocoa.

but i have work to do and a month to wait and christmas has more potential than ever to be something like what ive always wanted. since like kid times.

until then i wait and play cod4 on my 13″ screen and get like an inch away so i helicopter blast those dudes on the roof easier. i also go to the mall to see golden compass. i’ve been stoked all year for this picture, probably more than anything else. i read the books a year and half ago and i’ve yet to read the third (or i should say finish/restart.) an x got me into it. i think she was trying to play to my nerdier side. i love the books, just as good as potter with an atheist slant that i can vibe with. its like the anti cs lewis. the concepts rang so true with me and it was a book i could fly through. im no genius but i like a good book.

so i got to see preview screening, dope. it’s got a lot riding on it. the catholics have already boycotted it, new line’s beggin you’ll want to know about the subtle knife and the amber spyglass. sam elliott is like the big star, if u exclude the cast of james bond.

it’s kinda subtle and straight. there’s no pomp to it at all. it doesnt even really waste time telling jokes. it just flies through the narrative. it was simple to follow, the toddler next to me was on the edge of her seat. the second half was down right exciting, and i thought it all looked pretty flawless. id go so far as to say it’s the best green screen movie that’s been made thus far. like the whole second half is in antarctica and im pretty sure it was just done on a soundstage. i thought it was seamless, and the animals were without affectation or caricature. it was like this is the world, deal with it, we dont explain it. but they do. the questions u have the main characters has too, like potter it’s all about solving mysteries, knowing the truth. i especially thought the bear was great. i think it was ian’s voice, but it was the way they made it look like she was really riding it. it never looked like anakin on thse things on naboo. i dont think the cgi couldve looked better and thats always a pet peeve of mine.

they do fly through the story though which might make it difficult to have an opinion on anyone. it is a little dry in the beginning but i didnt mind. i missed the cocktail party and i think the color of the monkey seemed a little strange, but it is described as gold in the book. it just didnt look real. my only animal problem. it still scared me. and i think the very last scene was a little off. it doesn’t end like the book. it’s kinda like, who knows what kind of adventures i’ll go on? let’s go to sleep! the book’s end is a mindfuck if memory serves so i felt it ended on a whimper. sam elliot ruled as did his daemon. lyra talks with her neck a lot. she’s poppin. and the actual compass is kinda cool. like i want an alethiometer. i cant wait for lyra to come to ourl world. here’s hoping the movie is a success.

call of duty four rules on any sized screen. when that mushroom cloud happens, fuck! it’s just an awesome concept. i hope it goes totally post apocalyptic. it already kinda is. it’s really fun. i instantly want to play the level again, and usual i want to barrel through it. i got umbrella chronicles last night. im gonna play it tonight. except galaxy quest just came on.

i want to blog about my lunch with tommy boy but i think halo and tyra taught me to keep my mouth shut. i will say that i almost cried at the table at one point, because of what tommy boy is and what those albums mean to me. it was just one of the greatest honors of my life to be treated so well by this guy. and the food was hella good. it was at this place called basta pasta, itlaian food made by japanese. i had penne carbonara, cuz recipes for it are in all the magazines this month, and it was fucking awesome. it was like the bolognese at the chateau and i didnt want it to end. slow motion pasta.
