mcchris is online! (gaming i mean)

mc chris
i just plugged in my wii and ps3 and will do so on my 360. i dont mean i literally plugged them in, because i know there are people out there that take me very literally and will think i just bought them and plugged them in, but no, i mean i signed up at nintendo.com and on the ps3 and shopped a little and it was fucking awesome.

i had been putting it off for so long, i kinda wanted to be able to play with my friends in atlanta and portland, make jokes on the funny headset, but for some reason or another i just wanted to keep my gaming experience solitary. i guess im nervous socially in just about every way, including gaming wise. i mean, i kinda suck, every time i get online i get schooled immediately by a thirteen yr old racist from arkasas, thanks for the sword noob! no fun. but now i dont care. after being treated like a celebrity in the world of warcraft universe, where people would just eviscerate a cavern and give me the treasure (what a weird gaming exp that was) i think it’ll be fun to play with fans. i dont know if everyone will kill me or protect me tho… i get asked everyday a hundred time for my online ID’s. i cant wait to get going.

my ID on all three is mcchrisisdead to help promote the record. i was gonna wait until the fansite was up but we’ll just make this a test. i’ll prolly set aside a night every week in april to play games with fans. what should we play??

im also super huge digging the stores. i got a lives of others trailer for bluray, and played the condemned 2 and devil may cry 4 demos. on wii i set up news and weather and internet and watched utube videos on my tv. i love the news slideshow, that’s kinda cool. i also got elevator action for my wii. i had totally forgotten about this game but loved it as a kid. yknow, spy stuff.

so i’m happy that i have a new way to connect with fans. i’ll keep u informed about when i’m gonna be on.

my uncharted review

Filed under: mc chris — @ 11:15 am
mc chris
hooray for naughty dog for making one of the best games of the year. what’s awesome is that an employee of nd sent me uncharted after going to an mc chris show. he was like, u’ve got fans at other gaming companies besides epic (although i do love epic, they’re sending me a new gears hat and the ceo reads my blog everyday!) my heart is an infinite feast when it comes to fun stuff, and there’s plenty of love for everyone, especially the gaming companies that make my fav games.

when i lived in a brownstone called the souse house in jersey city, crash team bandicoot was the game to play. mario kart was fun, but i think my friends and i liked ctr waaaaay better (still excited for the new kart, now with dirtbikes!)

i got to play a little bit of uncharted when things went all sour, three girls ago last christmas. a fan picked me up to talk politics and play games. his sister’s bf had just gotten a ps3 and uncharted and they unwrapped it and this was the first game we saw on a new console. outside of wallmart etc.

from what i heard, ps3 was bunk and there just werent enough good games. so i waited, and it was hella expensive too, so i waited for that to come down too.

i remember thinking that uncharted looked like the most fin in the history of ever and it looked really good too, not just graphics, but sunsets, waterfalls and wet clothes. it was like prince of persia and gears of war with some tomb raider and indiana jones thrown in. a puzzler with shooting sections, lots of scenery.

i remember that day saved christmas because for the one millionth time i was unlucky in love (hooray for song content!) and in times of need i only need put the bat-fan signal up in the sky and someone will come and pick me up and make me feel better. that’s the kick ass thing about my fans. they’re ready for instructions! the game was awesome, i was free of drama, and i could be myself and relax.

three months later, i finally get to play it and finish the game. naughty dog sent a copy and i kept it in plastic next to my signed copy of gears, waiting for the day my screen would get big and my consoles would go next gen (is 360 next gen?)

i broke in my new tv and ps3 with rainbow six, obviously just a send up to uncharted because i was, as many of you read, disappointed. a lot of you said play rsv2 online and then there were all these articles about even that being fucked up. so i was ready for a good game. i started it up and it looked awesome absolutely beautiful. maybe the main guy’s head was just a smidge too big, and that kinda bobble headed him, but other than that i’ve got few complaints.

no more ragdoll bodies. the hero kinda goes ragdolly though when he dies, but at least the people you cap seem to have some body weight. the best part of the game is a head shot with a smith and wesson and the bad guy does a back flip when you blast him him. these guys are bulletproof too, it seems. each one needs four or five shots unless you’ve got the dragunov or shotgun.

feet touch stairs. it’s like they read my rainbow review and made sure all my qualms were settled. he even kinda trots down stairs side stylie and climbs up two steps at a time.

details, remember what i said about the tire going flat on rsv2, how that thing was all lifeless and blocky. this game was lush. you enter a clearing and a flock of birds flies away, or maybe it’s a brightly colored parrot. you enter a tomb and mice run past ur feet. little things really made it awesome. and there’s treasure to find, all over. too bad you dont actually SEE the treasure. just a twinkle in the corner.

vehicle parts rule. the first one where ur just on the back of a jeep blasting pursuers with a cannon and the drive itself is so awesome and the landscape is so vibrant and the enemies are so well drawn and real. it was maybe my favorite part of the game and i hate games within a game. i just want it to be one thing. i hate the vehicle levels in most games and i never understand why they’re there. but this one made sense, you’re going to different parts of the island that require transportation. might was as well blow up shit while you do it. jetski was tough. it was damn near impossible when you’re goin up stream through rapids with exploding barrels floating down stream. damn you donkey kong.

story. like everyone says it’s like an indiana jones movie, right down the old friend pilot with chomped cigar. there’s a cute girl that i was suspicious of the whole game but maybe that’s me. the bad guys were well drawn out but it seemed to be the same white guy controls minority henchmen scenario. here it seemed a little bit more true to life. the enemies do come off like random mercenaries and quite plausible. and it’s cool that the minorities actually are just using the white boss. sorry that’s a spoiler.

ill be honest the story confused me, the uboat, the curse, the spaniards, who was in the coffin at the end. but it was still fun. when we bust into an old lab, that’s when i was like, this game just became every game, sadly. i hate discovering the old lab where some experiment went horribly wrong. that it’s in every game. dont fuck with science is what the gaming industry is trying to say. (but that pig bladder powder made my finger grow back.) i had a feeling (SPOILER!!!) a monster was gonna show up, well they allude to it with clues etc. when they do show up though it’s hardly lame, in fact it’s awesome, and plausible and it wasnt a drastic shift in story either. it all made sense. and yes it would make a great movie. assassin’s creed would make a LAME movie.

complaints: the end was butt. it became one big cut scene with a lame final showdown that was super easy. given the game they definitely fucked up the climax, it should’ve been a real fight, not just a shooting match. ending it on a ship after being in a jungle the whole game was weak. i dunno. i wanted something more. like maybe when im hangin from the helicopter make that part of the game etc. the end was not good. but the game was great.

the kids in florida at christmas said it was too long. the rumor is, it’s too long, they said. nuh uh. i felt like it could’ve been twice as long with more varied locales. but everything that i saw was pretty beautiful, and i might just go play it again to go find the rest of the treasure.

id like to thank naughty dog, not only for ctr, but for giving me a next gen gaming experience. the bar’s been raised in terms of what a game should be. it should take all technologies and capabilities from all popular games and combine them, so your hero can do pretty much anything, climb sneak drive and kill. it sucks when you play a game with one particular advancement like gears of war grenade throwing and then not have it every game afterwards. or be able to climb over everything one game and just ladders the next.

so good job ndi! and thanks for sending me the free game! how lucky am i that it was one of the best games in recent memory.

Nerd News in Brief

Filed under: hipster please — @ 8:24 pm

Now that we’ve had the baby the really difficult part begins in earnest. No, not raising her. I’m talking about picking a nickname. Hey, it’s tougher than it sounds!

At first I had pegged her as Spooky, because she’s got this really unsettling gaze that she unleashes from time to time. Usually right before a slightly tardy feeding or diaper change. The problem, of course, is that “Unsettling” ain’t much of a nickname and “Spooky” isn’t wholly accurate.

Then I settled on Pinky cause, y’know, she is. But that doesn’t fly ‘cause there’s already a Pinky that I blog about often.

Currently I’m going back and forth between Tootie and Twiggy. Both seem like pretty good nick’s, but I’m gonna wait a bit before I commit. Like I said, this shit is serious.

In the meantime, here’s a very brief Nerd News in Brief.

  • Spun: Thanks to my old friend Darth Apu for letting me know that MC Frontalot, or rather the documentary about the man, garnered a mention in this month’s SPIN magazine. He says to look for “the tiniest mention” in the NOISE section on pages 33 and 34. It’s only a sentence, but at least it’s something.
  • Getting elevated: Speaking of Nerdcore Rising, the lovely Nagin Farsad and the equally lovely Frontalot were recently interviewed for a really great piece over at Quirkee.com. It’s a helluva read that even touches on the eternal and ever-so sticky question of an inherently racist slant in nerdy rap. Thanks to Church for hipping me to this one.
  • They really are: For a more personal piece on a recently released nerdy music movie, check out Lizz’s take on We Are Wizards. While the doc’s already garnered some really complimentary press, this will give you the opinions of a seriously informed Wrock aficionado. Check it out.
  • Accio tour help!: Wizard Rock sirens Lena and Lauren are coming to your town. Hopefully. The trick is you gotta help them get hooked with a venue. Apparently many of the libraries they’ve contacted thus far haven’t been too quick with the callbacks, so if you’ve got an in at any of the cities in question why not help the ladies out? Oh, and don’t forget to friend the tour mates on MySpace. Make like Matt and Church and give the Wrockers some love!
  • Taking a leak: Late last week I became the first person to receive a copy of Dual Core’s forthcoming release Lost Reality. I’m not at liberty to say anything about at present; I mostly just wanted to gloat. Fuck-to-the-yeah! What I can tell you is that the album will be officially released on April 4th (at Notacon 5 in Cleveland), and that you should expect a review from me shortly thereafter. Not to spoil anything, but, uh, it’s good. Real good. And the guest artists will shock and amaze!
  • Something blue?: In other album news, Ultraklystron just dropped a collection of some old and new covers called Imitate. The EP features Karl’s amazing cover of Lupe Fiasco’s “Daydreamin’” that appeared on the Hipster, please! compilation Nerdcore Undercover as well as his amazing and hilarious cover of Beefy’s “Nerdcore For Life.”
  • The saga continues: Rhyme Torrents mastermind and imbiber of all controlled substances High-C just put out the official call for last Rhyme Torrents disc. High-C explicitly mentioned that he wants to make sure this one top shelf, featuring “high-bitrate, well-mastered, expertly-crafted, funky-yet-nerdy-yet-not-contrived, pieces de’ resistance.” The album release will coincide with this year’s Nerdapalooza in Orlando, and thus will no doubt attract some serious attention. Interested parties are directed, as always, to the RT boards.
  • 2 Legit: Big up to the one and only Random, whose Mega Ran album has now been officially licensed by Capcom! While Ran admits “knowing you are not gonna get sued has to be the best feeling in the world,” a little heartfelt congratulations form the scene couldn’t help but make things all the sweeter. Head over to Random’s MySpace to give him a virtual pat on the back.
  • Wherein being a sellout is a good thing: Previously, Dan announced that Nerdcore For Life would be making its world premiere Saturday, April 5th at the Wisconsin Film Fest. New news from the NC4L camp has just come to light concerning the tickets for this event; after being on sale for less than two weeks, all 199 tickets to the screening have sold out! Head over the doc’s MySpace and give them a hearty “well done” as well!
  • Me too: On a more personal note, the first episode of my new Wired project, GeekDad’s HipTrax, has garnered a significant number of downloads and some really great feedback. Thanks to everyone who checked it out and double-thanks to everyone who helped me spread the word. Keep your eye on your aggregators next week when ep. 2 drops. I really think you’ll dig it.
  • What’s pink and sucks?: The other Z – you know, the one who hasn’t been shirking her duties over the past week – has a new edition of her enchanting classic game review series Little Miss Gamer. Check out Z’s thoughts on Kirby’s Adventure and be summarily charmed.

so looks like i just got warped on semi lock down. found a roadie/tm that’s in cahoots with my financial peoples so books and merch will flow like never before ie without my involvement. im so excited to have someone else in charge of when we run out of stuff etc. i was expecting a crew of two, but as long as finance is cool with it, im ok too. cuz i want to be able to be relaxed and awesome enough to do eight weeks of shows almost everyday without collapsimatating.

what’s also awesome beside the new assistance, is im gonna be on my FIRST HUGE AWESOME TOUR BUS! whut whut. and im paying for it myself yo, no label help. well actually im going halvsies with another band called Broadway Calls, they’re signed to billy joe’s label! pop punk is always the way to go when it comes to making big decisions.

the bus is owned by a label and i think it’s the label guy and his lady, broadway calls and me and my tour manager/roadie. that’s gonna be my hopefully happy little family for 2/3 of the summer.

wanna peep pics of my pimp ride?

check out myspace.com/rocktourbus

ps. i guess i might be doing something with this company called harmonix or something, anyone know what that’s about? jk. it could be a very cool little project, i’ll keep you informed.

PLEASE REPLY IN BLOG AND THEN GET OFF MY BUS YOU SKANKY ASS HO!

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!! AVENGER 39 ON SHELVES

Filed under: mc chris — @ 10:04 am
mc chris
officially one of the best days of my life. as i’ve been saying hawkeye, or ronin as he’s now known, will be wearing an mc chris tshirts in today’s issue of new avengers. this is beyond cool and actually is gonna lead to cooler stuff but you have to wait and see.

just watched the gow2 tech demo, im stoked to say the least and it was good to see micahel capps. he went to an mc chris show and brought me a ton of schwag. we were gonna try to get my voice on the game but i wasnt union. sad face. will somebody please put me in a videogame? it will be almost as cool as being in avengers.

we almost finished all the skits yesterday. today we start up on the songs and go over everything one last time before we hand it over to jc. mastering got moved four days later which is good because april seventh was turning into one of those crazy days. cuz it’s the day i do it live for the first time too at the upright citizens brigade theater.

everything’s coming together. im glad things are getting all locked down. we’ve been trying to figure out my bus situation. i wanna bunk with this band called broadway calls that billie joe signed, cuz they’re pop punk people and that’s usually low risk. if they’ve chosen that genre then they’re pretty much definitely not lame. we’ll find out. also closing in on tm and then we’ll figure out roadie. experienced warped tour roadie applications go to warpedroadie@mcchris.com. im getting all my art together, for the album as well as the tent. new merch should be back at indie merch in about two weeks, including all fett and zombie merch.

been playing uncharted expect a full review. and greek came back on which is the best disney series about binge drinking ever. life’s ok, i just need it to get a little bit warmer so i can start walking and lose my winter weight. i have been having a great time being depressed and eating tons of crap. fried rice and chicken sandwiches, breakfast cereal and ice cream. sadly though i am getting older and my metabolisms is at like bullet time speed. so it’s back to healthy foods. i started eating right again yesterday. oh salad, how i hate thee. so long french fry, i knew yee well.

enough of that, im off to the upper west side! as you can see the snobot mixes have left the building (but now they’re at the snobot myspace page) new music will pop up any second and who know’s where it will surface… better stay tuned.

PLEASE REPLY IN BLOG AND TELL US WHAT YOU THOUGHT ABOUT AVENGERS 39 DRAWN BY SUPER ARTIST DAVID MACK!!! DO U EVEN READ AVENGERS? YOU SHOULD. THERE’S SKRULL IN THEM THERE HILLS.
