60 MINUTES DOESNT THINK IM A NERD :) !

they still filmed my show but because i wasnt dressed with broken glasses and a pocket protector and rapped about code breaking all set, im suspicious about my being in the segment at all. the producer joel said,

producer: you don’t look like a nerd

mc: well i am, this is what we look like. we’re not a stereotype, we’re everybody.

producer: so ur thinking of nerd as a broad term.

mc: yes everyone’s a nerd, baseball fantasy nerds, nascar nerds, everyone that watches sixteen minutes is a nerd. i could convince anybody they’re a nerd. it’s about passion towards something specific to them. and it could be anything.

it’s the truth but i doubt that’s what they want to show. they prolly want to do the same old article about nerds taking over (because the people making the story are secretly nerds and want to tell the tale of nerd domination.) they want a nerdy 8 mile scene and they got that at my show and at pax but that’s not real, that’s not what front sees on the road, nor i. they think it’s a public physical experience, not a private digital one. they dont want to hear that the message boards where nerds all hang out are most likely evil scary places where pretty much everyone cant wait to hate on u or anything at all for that matter. i was like u dont want to dig deep into the truth of this scene, you want to report on an idealized stereotype of nerd rap and nerds. not exactly conducive to my being in the segment.

and what’s even worse is that i discovered that i swear non stop and all my songs are about drugs and sex. yes i’m seeing it all through broken glasses so to speak, but still i rap too fast for the sixty minutes crew to hear all my nerdy references, those little things that secretly make me as nerdy as they wished i was.

i also felt like my parents were watching the show through the sixty minute cameras as weird as that sounds. so that just made it weird. when i’m off the cuff it’s hard for me not to say fuck. i have no idea why. i can only blame catholicism.

it was nice to be in ny, the style, the paperback readers on the subway, in their own worlds, the wind through the cab window on the bridge. i stopped by fp, the clerk and i both commented on how old man logan is the shit. i will scan my favorite pieces of art and make a blog about it because it’s actually better than secret invasion. it’s the real secret. i mean hawkeye is slicing heads and driving the spider jeep through walls, it looks like he’s about to get fucked up by spidergirl too. and how about those dinosaurs? it’s like madmax marvel. awesomeness.

i gotta count my cash and head off to the pharm. lots to do today before i head to westbury in the middle of the night and then back to harvard. i have five more shows. i fly to gainesville on saturday for a music fest (i go on at 11pm) then i got one more show in philly and then i’m done. well no. i do anime fest in nyc two days later. it just doesnt end.

PLEASE REPLY IN BLOG OR I WILL JUST STAY HERE IN BROOKLYN AND NEVER COME OUT AND PLAY.

  1. Yeah man, I keep discovering I’m not the nerd I thought I was too. I was like… didn’t I used to make constant similes out of unpopular PC games like Twinsen? If I make songs about relationships with girls that actually happen or being amazing at rap… am I going to lose the nerdcore audience?

The answer, for me, has been: yes! Especially because even though I’m still peppering my rhymes with things like a reference to changes made between the Japanese and North American versions of Sailormoon (”I switch it up like Malachite and Kunzite” – Aww Shucks), I rap too fast half the time and too mush-mouthed the other half and poof there goes my niche market. Heh.

BUT… I am also still too nerdy for the mainstream. Win-win!
