I just got done watching “Zeitgeist: Addendum” (otherwise referred to as Zeitgeist 2) and for some odd reason I’m not impressed. While it did bring up some good things to think about- namely a sustainable, resource based economy in lieu of the current fractional banking system, the whole idea of a largely work less Utopia  doesn’t seem all that appealing. Neither does the thought of having to boycott our current economic system in hopes that such a Utopia is adopted as an alternative.

Those of you who have no idea as to what the Zeitgeist films are, or what they are about, let me give you the gist of it: The first film was a 2007 film about economic, social, political and religious conspiracies (thanks Wikipedia)- it in effect denies all religion, says what a great deal of Americans believe (that there is something fishy about how the attacks on September 11, 2001 and how it translated into the Global War on Terrorism) and introduces an idea that “hey, all your stuff are belong to banks”. The sequel to Zeitgeist- “Zeitgeist: Addendum” delves further into economic and political conspiracy for a bit, and then suggests that there is a radical alternative to our current economic system: The Venus Project.

While I don’t doubt that a resource based economy would be absolutely awesome, I don’t see how the Venus Project’s proposed jobless, lawless nation could actually work. The thought conjures up two places in my mind: Iraq in the months after Baghdad was taken, and Saudi Arabia. Take the lawlessness of post invasion Iraq with the abundance of idle people in Saudi Arabia and you got yourself quite a twisted picture. Not an accurate picture of what may occur if this project were to be implemented mind you, but I don’t like the idea all the same. Even Alex Jones pointed out that ‘people want to work…people like to work”, and Alex Jones isn’t someone I agree with often.

Aside from my dislike of the Venus Projects Utopian proposal, there is the question of implementation: short of a catastrophic natural disaster, or worse, an economic collapse, there is no  foreseeable way to implement any of the solutions this project offers- it took an F5 tornado to change Greensburg, Kansas. The film states this itself- the existing economic and political infrastructure is self perpetuating. Let me go further and say that in all likelihood the current existing political and economic structure will not collapse or be replaced.

Now before you leave me a string of nasty comments about how I’m wrong, and how the economy is failing, the government is this that or the other thing, I submit to you that there is no reason why we cant perhaps augment our current infrastructure in ways that improve upon the existing system- investing in solar or wind energy producing devices to greatly offset your reliance on the power companies, is just one of many things people can do to make their lives a bit more affordable. Honestly, I think that evaluating you current expenditures at home, and finding alternatives to what you currently do that are financially sound (that is, there is at some point a payoff or savings), is the best step in the direction of turning to a resource based economy.

Wrapping up, it’s my opinion that while there are some issues in “Zeitgeist: Addendum” that should be taken into account, the whole thing just felt like a long winded Venus Project sales pitch. I think that we should all do what we can to be less financially reliant on things that we have no control over, but I don’t believe that we are headed towards a Utopian society- especially not one sold to us by a crafty voiced over set of video clips.

We have way to much to tell you for this to wait till the next edition of the Nerdcore Week in Review, so lets dive right in.

• As promised, we would let you know when we found out anything about “The Digital Gangster” EP, and I am pleased to say that, while we didnt exactly find out any more information about it then we already had, MC Lars dropped the first single from the project on his MySpace page. On ‘Paul is Dead’ Lars and YTCracker explore conspiracy theories…did Jimmy Hoffa really die?
• Speaking of MC Lars and YTCracker, they will be in the Northwest for a show on November 16, at the High Dive in Seattle…YTCracker may be in portland around that time for another show, but nothing is confirmed.
• In the recent Rhymetorrents.org 2v2 Battle competition, MC Gigahertz and Mad Hatter (as The Rubicks Dudes) claimed overall victory. The entire competition has been made available for download here
• Schaffer the Darklord was recently interviewed by The Apiary, where he discussed his roots in comedy, his brand of Nerdcore music, and even his experiences with underground hip hop.
• The 8 Bit Boys have a website now, where you can pre-order their upcoming album “8 Bit Diagrams”. For those of you who dont know, the 8 Bit boys consist of Entity, The Ranger, TyT, and YTCracker.
• Jarod (AlienBobZ, our Audio Archivist) has put up 8 videos from Optimus Rhyme’s final performance, with more promised, and high quality audio is sure to follow.
• Northwest favorite Beefy will be opening for mc chris at Chop Suey in Seattle on the 14th…an interesting development considering chris’s attitude towards nerdcore turned sour not to long ago.

Its been a while since I’ve done one of these, so I figured I’d give people a rundown on the happenings of this week in nerdcore music.

• YTCracker headed to the Bay Area this week to begin work on his joint venture with MC Lars entitled “The Digital Gangster EP. No word yet on when we can expect that project, but im sure it wont be long. We know little about the project, other then it featuring some production by New Jersey producer Dicepticon. More on this as we get word.
• Vancouver, Washington producer Mad DPS Released his “Triple Six Mixtape” on Rhymetorrents.org. The 13 track mixtape features the likes of Ham-STAR, TYT, YTCracker, and MC Wrekshin -amongst others- and arrives just in time for Halloween. Its an awesome collection of horror-themed nerdcore, and a recommended download.
• Ultraklystron has made his entire back catalog available on a USB drive for $25…that is, everything he can legally sell. That’s 2.71 gigs of music, and a USB drive, for only $25 bucks. Snag it here!
• Speaking of Ultraklystron, he appears on an interview with Nerdcore For Life director Dan Lamoureux on Chicago Public Radio. Also appearing in the interview are quotes and music from Tupac, The Former Fat Boys, MC Lars, MC Router, Optimus Rhyme, MC Plus +, and Beefy. Nerdcore For Life will be screened tonight at Reggie’s Music Joint at 2105 South State Street in Chicago.
• MC Frontalot’s “Final Boss” has been made available for preorder on his site, along with a download of his albums first single “Wallflowers”, for some time now (those who preordered the nerdcore CD got an elite download package complete with high quality mp3’s and album art scans, but the wait is over. “Final Boss” begins shipping TODAY! Front’s album even got a writeup on Boing Boing, so check it out
• In news not entirely related to MC Frontalot, Penny Arcade: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 2 will feature a new track from the final boss. This RPG, created in collaboration with Hothead Games, will be available later this fall for $14.95 (for most operating systems) or 1200 MS points (for the Xbox 360). Hopefully it will have some more of the steam punk aesthetic its predecessor did, so as to amuse Tanuki (Sup Mang!)

So, I happened upon these videos by accident- thru searching the search results for fucktube (for some reason we rank 17th on Google for the query “fucktube”, and that’s reflected in our stats) and I couldn’t help but bust up laughing.

This first one is pretty straightforward- its an introduction to the sites features.

But this second one depicting a blonde girl doing all sorts of dumb shit, although very stereotypical, is rather hilarious.

I cant tell if the end says “blondes have more fun”, or “blondes have more phone”, but them foreigners sure cook up a good commercial either way.

PS. Now our ranking for the above mentioned query is justified.
